J - Jeff Goldsmith, автор подкаста.
S - Стивен Макфили
C - Кристофер Маркус
Продолжение следует.
J: I just wanted get into this little family drama of friends that disagree that you guys made... i hate it when people don't go (03:52) little (arthouse?) films...
S: Why don't you give it a chance?
J: Give it a chance? It only cleared one point... one - I'm having trouble - one point one four (1.14) billion
S: Yeah
J: at the box office.
S: Yeah
J: So, congrats on that. And you know... I just wanted go back for second, 'cause you guys have been ... (? 04:12) the franchise since the beginning. And when it was time to do Captain America: The First Avenger you really built it up well. In the universe the Captain America was first created - the time period of 1940s - and just because it leads into tonight there is that moment when Bucky falls off the train...
S: Oh.
J: ...into the snow. It was very sad. We were all very sad. And there was a lot of speculations of... we... you know, he's falling into the snow... did you know then that Winter Soldier would be the follow-up?
C: We knew Winter Soldier existed as a concept but that move... we didn't know that... I mean... (??? 04:50) the fourth Marvel movie? The MCU movie? Erm... so there had been one sequel. So we could very easily never visit(???) Captain America again if nobody went. So... but... Sebastian had actually auditioned for Steve Rogers he so... like... he does... he seems unsettled he seems like a troubled man.
(laugh)
C: And we all said "Boy, if we ever get to make a Winter Soldier movie that guy is Winter Soldier.
S: He is hounted looking.
(laugh)
S: Yeah. Well, I mean it was always very important to us. That's why we made it in the end of act II. I mean in the comics when everything was so ... (??? 05:41)... they erm... they end the arc with the same event (не совсем уверена в точности слов, но смысл такой). And it didn't help us at all. You know, we needed him to be part of the dark moment in the end of act II. So that Steve could be bothered by it, you know, forever. So...
("Wow" из зала)))
S: ... in success... we wanted him... we wanted him to be that thing, yeah.
J: Just a question i always have been curious about. Since Joe Johnston did not come back to the franchise again...
С: Come baaack, Joe.
J: ... and he did a great job, and when Marvel was looking for new directors and the dicertors of You, Me and Dupree graced the pages of the possibilities...
S: (for) the action-packed thriller!
J: Yes! Yes! And by the way I love the Russo brothers. They have been as great for this franchise as you guys have been.
S: Maybe more (great).
J: At first it was kind of unknown... so what do you remember of those early conversations? Because as a fan of Arrested Development they with you really helped infuse the right amount of humor into the series. And I think there is a lot to be said of that.
C: I just remember goiing "Who...?... A... erm... both of them? Do we need two of them?"
S: Eeerm... They said all the right things.
C: Yeah. We were in the meeting when they came and pitched. And we had a draft already of Winter Soldier and they got it completely and took it for the (??? 07:00). And we were like "No this scene is the scene from "... Kennedy", this scene is from "Marathon man". So, no, we were hundred... Once we met them we were 100% convinced. Before we met them I think we just had open minds.
S: I mean the secret is that they have... I think, first of all that... that Marvel will take a chance in anybody who does not have the resume that you would think they should have. I mean we wrote the Narnia movies that doesn't necessarily translate to you know Captain America.
J: But acts in your defence. It shows that you have an ability to kindn of jack into a franchise.
S: For sure, right. We will be keepers of (IP??? 07:40) im some way. But, erm, I think more important is that... at least it is how I justified - the Russo brothers have made more hours of film staff then any directors worked in the Marvel. Right? I mean just in term of hours the staff they put on a screen of some sort... So they have all sorts of decisions and mistakes and had succeses ad they just have you know really solid craftsmanship... and you look at Winter Soldier and Civil War and you, you... sure.
C: And also I don't think it was in Marvels mind necessarily 'cause you know you don't want to bet too far down the line when you don't know people but because we have rolled from Winter Soldier to Civil War into Infinity Wars I and II theit TV backgound where they just keep rolling and keep shooting has you know... they have a constitution to do this as opposed to (имя какого-то режиссера, не могу понять, что-то вроде Dunkel Flower, но хз) who made one small indie-film and it all fell apart. Well, and they bring an episodic structure to something that in its purest form was serialised to begin with. So it made sence.
S: Yeah, right. I mean unless Kevin is - and maybe he is - a supergenious... but did he know THAT? Like you know that... he is not treating like TV but - let's face it - but there is an element of this "I'm going episodic storyline".
J: You know I was going to bring him up later, but since you brought him up now...
S: Kevin?
J: The truest hero of the Marvel Universe is Kevin Feige.
S: Probably.
C: It is true.
J: Yeah, yeah. Absolutely.
(applause)
J: And I just... if you guys can give us an inside. You know, we've read the articles about him but I would actually be curious from you - storytellers - what have you noticed about Feige's creative habits? And especially his organizational habits in which you - as you said were the very early in the MCU and it's very elaborate what was contsracted - that you have seen from kind of behind the desk. So I'm curious wat some other things that were eye-opening for you about Feige's process?
C: First and foremost - he is a fan. So none of this things are some product he has (??? 09:44) that he understands young people might be interested in. You know - he is a huge dork. You know, he loves this staff. And erm...
S: I mean super-educated fan.
C: Oh, yes! Super-educated fan!
S: He's forgotten? more than I know about it.
C: But he also was a fan you know... "he was there on the first day Star Wars came out" and things like that. He is, you know... he's been of that mind set his whole life. And I would say that... I mean among his many fine qualities - he is... a handsome man. (боги, ну и интонация XD)
